This link connects you to a YouTube play list for a set of 15 videos by Jeremy Blum. The series starts out very simple and moves gradually to a more advanced level. At each stage it is assumed that you have watched and understood what went before so do watch them in order and be sure that each in understood before moving on. There are many Arduino tutorials on the net but this series is the best in my opinion…

If you really do want to use an Arduino after viewing the above material, then this is the book for you.
It covers everything in the videos and then goes deeper as required…

SCARM means Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeller. It is a free software package for easy and simple design of model railway layouts and railroad track plans. There are others out there but I find this one easiest to use. It is probably worth your while to try others before deciding though.
